JULIE, there was so much juice in this post! I LOVE Hacks! Currently my favorite show on TV. Perfection. No notes. Bought the word nerd book-- thanks for the rec! Love all Supergroup products. THANK YOU for the humor market lists. Unfrosted sounds fun!
Oh nice! I am late to Hacks because I don't have HBO but somehow was able to watch the first season on cable. I may now need to get HBO to continue it, ha! Unfrosted was fun!
Julie- A roundup is always good to check out. Thanks for sharing. Now I can look forward to a few books and funny tv. Hope you're well this week. Cheers, -Thalia
The Steve Martin doc was really well done. I wasn’t very familiar with him beforehand but feel like I have a really good grasp afterward. So cool to see the different phases in his career shown so distinctly.
Of course -- it was great! And I did not even notice that about our names! I wonder if they are similar origins. Mine is Norwegian but the story is that it was Honsvik but got chopped off at Ellis Island.
I was going to ask if it was Norwegian! Mine is! My grandfather’s last name was Ervik and it got changed to Ervick at Ellis Island too. In Norwegian a “vik” is a bay, so like every town on the coast is Somethingvik. (And this is allegedly where the word Viking comes from.) I’m headed back to Ervik, Norway this summer :)
Oh I love that and did not know that about the name origins. I am jealous of your Norway trip. We've been talking about trying to get their next summer, so hopefully it will work out. Hope you enjoy the the trip!
Thanks! I wrote a whole essay called “My Viking Name” about changing my name back to “my maiden name” after my divorce, and how I hated the term “maiden.” So I learned a few things about viks and Vikings! :)
That sounds like a great essay and can't believe I hadn't looked into it more beforehand. My Norwegian grandfather would tell the Ellis island story but I don't remember him talking more about the name meaning (although he was not a big talker!) We also went through a town called Vik in Iceland a couple years ago and one of my kids is very into Vikings so he will be interested to know this :)

Thanks for reading! Hope your week is well too.
Hacks is great and only gets better!
It’s a great premise!

Also, Hacks is 🔥, welcome to the club
Agreed! I also learned a lot from the documentary — I didn’t realize how big he had gotten in standup before his acting career.
Thanks Julie!
Of course! Hopefully that teaser will keep people on the edge of their seats for the interview.
The fans are going to be whipped into a frenzy
Wu Tang Clan is my favorite group from the nineties, hands down. If we're talking rock bands only, I'll take Soundgarden.
Both solid choices!
Thanks for recommending my Artist Date comic, Julie! (Also, our last names are very similar!)

Yeah, I didn’t get much from my grandfather when he was alive either. But it’s been amazing to meet family in Norway and learn a bit more!
