Thanks for the tips - used to routinely submit to their "letters where you don't expect a reply." I have a whole category of writring called "McSweeney Rejects" but I will give it another try - if nothing else add to my collection!

I think lots of us have a folder full of McSweeney’s rejects :)

I tried that column too. I have a general NO writing email folder with all my McSweeney’s rejections taking up a chunk of space. The *nice* thing is that the editors there are so genuinely nice and responsive. You know if it’s a yes or no and you can submit all the time or once a year. I also like that there’s a place for parent writers and their perspectives. Sending you good submitting vibes!

Helpful interview. I’m gearing up to submit to McSweeney’s but am doing extensive research first. Congrats on the column and book!

What's McSweeney’s pay, I wonder. The site doesn't say, but intimates not much. They really know how to get writers excited : )

They don’t pay a lot (currently $40 I believe) but they are definitely a well respected byline in the humor writing world and can have a bigger reach than a lot of other literary sites.

That ain't bad. I just didn't want it to be four dollars. I've seen that. Thanks !

Unfortunately, new food reviews don’t pay (yet) but, as Julie mentions, it’s an important byline in humor and literary writing.

Do they pick up the check? : )

That would be nice. I think I'm reviewing the wrong things though if that were ever to happen. I don't think they sell lobster at Aldi. :)
